Miami Nightlife - Cedric Gervais @ CameoSouth Beach mega club Cameo turned 1 year old this past weekend, and DJs Shawn Rudnick & Cedric Gervais kept the party going strong, along with a live saxophonist. The venue was packed with Miami’s rich & sexy, and the night had a slight hedonistic vibe. Hands in the air, girls on the tables, scantily clad go-go’s, and floor stomping tunes. VICE, Cameo’s VIP upstairs area, definitely lives up to it’s name… :)

Cameo is a feast for the eyes & ears, and one of my favorite spots in South Beach. I can’t wait to see what they’ve got planned for the Winter Music Conference. Happy Birthday Cameo!

Miami Nightlife - Steve Bug @ Sunday SchoolThe Miami Winter Music Conference closed out with the annual Sunday School for Degenerates party at Pawn Shop. The event featured great DJs like Lee Burridge, Loco Dice, Mistress Barbara, Steve Bug, Sebo K and many more. A great day to soak in amazing tunes with an international crowd from places like Italy, England, Mexico City, Columbia, & many other parts of the globe. You could tell everyone was almost partied out from a full week of debauchery, but they still found some energy to get their groove on for the last party of the week.

The Ocean Drive Marquee at the International Polo Club Palm Beach
This year’s U.S. Open Polo Championship at the International Polo Club in Palm Beach saw a face-off between Crab Orchard and Las Monjitas, with Crab Orchard coming out on top 15-12 in front of a sold-out crowd. We stopped by the Ocean Drive tent to catch up with some of the event’s spectators.

We need a Fifth Estate
It appears the Fourth Estate has failed us so the question is, can the Internet provide a Fifth Estate?

$3-$7 bar bite menu 5-7 p.m.
Choices include: Mini cheeseburgers with caramelized onions and horseradish cream (3 for $6); Cajun calamari served with honey mustard sauce ($5); a twice-baked potato filled with cheese and bacon ($3); and more.

Breakfast sandwiches rated
It’s been an interesting spring for the breakfast sandwich. In March, we lost the visionary behind the Egg McMuffin when Herb Peterson, a Rogers Park native, died at 89. Then Panera Bread launched a trio of grilled sandwiches and Burger King unveiled the Cheesy Bacon BK Wrapper. Yet for sheer importance, the season’s grandest event is McDonald’s new chicken breakfast sandwich. We’ve tried them all:

Prosecco: 2 stars from Vettel
Prosecco has good looks, terrific Italian regional menu

I f the key to success in the restaurant game is timing, Kathryn Sullivan Alvera is finally up and running with Prosecco after a couple rough patches. Fortunately, it has looks, style and terrific regional Italian cooking.

$3 Schlitz bottles, $3.50 Goose Island 312 pints, $4 Svedka cocktails and Southern Comfort Lime shots, $4 Jameson shots, $5 Rosenblum red zinfandel glasses

CNN reports that “male geishas” are the newest …

geishaguy.jpgCNN reports that “male geishas” are the newest trend in Tokyo. These enterprising gentlemen work as “hosts” in clubs where women reportedly pay between “$1,000 to $50,000 a night for male companionship.” As with traditional geisha girls, it’s unclear whether the majority of these women are simply paying for conversation and entertainment, or for sex. Unlike traditional geisha girls, these guys don’t wear elaborate makeup. But they do dye and blow dry their hair daily to “look prettier.” [CNN]

Eating Whale Meat in Tokyo

Yes, this post is exactly what you think it is. I purchased and consumed whale meat in Japan. Before all you animal lovers out there start sending me hate mail, I’d ask you to consider a few things first. Every year, despite intense criticism from environmental activists and the international community, Japanese fishermen
slaughter whales. They claim their hunt is all part of “scientific research.” Thanks to these dedicated “scientists,” whale meat is available in restaurants and supermarkets throughout Japan. You know, since they have to kill the whales anyway, they might as well eat the meat too right? Worst of all, researchers say much of the whale meat on sale in Japan comes from endangered animals. Though I may have given money to morally bankrupt fishermen and tasted the flesh of an endangered species while making this video, I hope this clip can have a positive impact by making people more aware of the thriving whale meat trade in Japan. Now that we’ve got all the necessary disclaimers out of the way, watch me scarf down some blubber. It’s way gross.

Stitch & Bitch

Feist with Hayden
Leslie Feist is a pretty polarizing singer. Some (okay, many) adore the Canadian songstress? quirky, folk melodies and warm electro ambiance. And yet, others just cannot stand her voice. Chances are, this show is gonna be packed with an old-ish, book-ish, employed-ish crowd. This is a concert to…

Party Location Suggestions?

Party Location Suggestions?

Hi everyone I seem to have a little dilemma.  My friend has a 21st birthday coming up and he is really the first of our group to turn 21.  Since many of us are not going to be able to take him out we want to throw him a party.  The only problem is we really don?t have a location.  Most of us, including him, attend the University of Florida.  We?re originally from Miami but because of different situations we really don?t have a house to throw a party.  I was just wondering if anybody knows of anyone who rents out there house for a party just for one night. Not even the house we just need a pretty big back yard.  We are going to have at least 100 people there.  Would it be better to rent out VIP at a club and have bouncers not giving us crap for not being 21?  Is it even possible to rent out the pool area of a hotel for a night for a party? Any suggestions at all will be helpful.  Money really isn?t an issue to a certain extent.  Of course we are not going to be able to rent out a club for a night.  His birthday is May 30 which is a Friday night.  We would like to throw it either Thursday night or that Friday night.

Beware of crime and theft inside night clubs

It?s easy to let your guard down when it?s late and you?ve had a few drinks. But people should beware of the violent crime and petty theft that goes on inside of Miami night clubs.

While reading this weeks police report from Miami Beach, I see a thief stole a purse with a cellphone valued at $250 after a woman left the items on a bed at Nikki Beach Club.

Also this week, striktlypleasure visited South Beach for his big vacation, and got his friggin? bottles stolen while he was partying VIP-style at Mansion.

What?s this city coming to, when dirtbags are stealing drinks?

Bianca comments?

Never leave your bottles behind. That’s every broke club hopping losers dream! I can’t believe that happened to you guys, but here in Miami, most people in a crowded spot are unworthy of trust. […] I mean I have had my purse stolen at Glass (a supposed “upscale restaurant/lounge”.) They only thing I found scattered on the floor like 10 min. later were my keys and some guy called me the next day and returned my phone to me.

My advice when you inside a night club - keep your wallet close and your girl closer.

What is the most popular style of music?

Clubs, Lounges, Bars, Parties: What kind of music will you find the most?
Would you say Miami and Miami Beach is mostly Hip Hip & R&B, Dance(Trance, House, Progressive, Tribal or Techno?etc.), Top 40, Mash Ups, or all mixed together, rock, or etc. etc.??
Most To Least?

When you lose your monopoly, business has to change
A blog post from Seth Godin got me thinking.

HP Readies Monitor with “One Billion Colors”

HP is readying a monitor for video post production work that has “one billion colors.” The new technology was announced at the NAB show in Las Vegas last week by HP and partner DreamWorks. DreamWorks will be using the new monitor in animation post-production.

DreamWorks and HP have had a long association in implementing advanced technology for animation production.

But the technology is not just for the professional post-production video production suite, it will be implemented across HP’s consumer and business monitor lines, Computer World reports.

Beet.TV caught up with HP’s Jeff Wood at the HP booth for this explanation. The new monitor was not on display at show, just the announcement of its upcoming introduction.
