Dan Zanes offers homespun fun

Posted in Los Angeles on May 30th, 2008

Dan Zanes offers homespun fun
Fans of all ages can expect to join the musician in singing and dancing at his Orange County Performing Artscenter shows.

Dan Zanes , the former Del Fuegos frontman-turned-children’s music superstar, has built up an all-ages fan base with festive and soulful “hand-made” music reminiscent of an old-time family singalong.

Live: Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra
The season concludes with shimmering works by Beethoven, Handel and Kevin Puts.

Kevin Puts’ new Piano Concerto, which the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra commissioned and performed Sunday evening at UCLA’s Royce Hall, puts on a good show. A young American composer with an ear for glittery textures, Puts did what he could to please an audience. And he did what he could to make things impossible for Jeffrey Kahane, the orchestra’s music director, who conducted from the keyboard.

His concert grapevine is a chamber music lifeline
Enthusiast Jim Eninger spreads word online about chamber music events, to the gratitude of artists and the benefit of fans.

IN THE mood for some live chamber music in the coming week? Well, in the Southland alone, there are more than 70 events to choose from.

Partying in June

Hi there, we are two British guys coming over to Miami for the first week in June we are just looking for a good time with ladies / clubs / drinking etc. We have booked to stay on 18th street so i think we are sort of at the centre of things.
Anyone with any ideas of which Clubs to go on which nights???
Is it worth going to the big named clubs and getting bottle service as there are only 2 of us etc?
can anyone recommend any clubs where there is not a long wait in line.
anyone with any ideas of what to do in general when we are there would be appreciated

I caught up with Lisa Guillaume, VP at Level3 last week at Streaming Media East.

She told me the company has vastly expanded its offering in the CDN space since it entered the industry last year. She she told me in its first year, the company has increased capacity of its products by a factor of 30. As an owner of an backbone networks, she explains that Level3 can offer a variety of services cost effectively.

Is a return to the ?Studio System? on the horizon?
Is it reasonable to think that a world with a billion personal channels needs a lot of content to fill it, so is the most cost-effective way to create that to return to the studio system of old?

Skip the cake and head straight for these sugar-shackled dessert drinks.

Frozen custards rated
Until five years ago, the city of Chicago was devoid of a real frozen custard stand, putting us way behind towns like Milwaukee, St. Louis and Champaign-Urbana. Then Scooter’s Custard arrived in Lakeview and the lines formed immediately for this ice cream-like treat that employs egg yolks and reduced aeration to create a dense, rich texture.

Rub shoulders with Japan's smart-set in this temple to chic in the Far East. Thanks to it's dark interior, artfully dimmed by table-top lamps, and a labyrinthine layout, it's all-too-easy to get lost. But who cares when you can sip on sake, or nurse a mighty beniotome to clear even the most jaded of palettes in readiness for a wooden bowl of tofu…
