IT WOULD be the vacation of a lifetime: Quebec, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Hungary, Vietnam and Taiwan in one fell swoop. But anyone interested in sampling the cultural traditions and contemporary arts of those countries without having to shell out the cash for an around-the-world plane ticket might want to visit the Music Center’s “World City.”

The New Year at The Echo
But the wait may be worth it. The indie band rings in its third album in nine years tonight at the Echo.

On the long list of indie bands that deserve wider hearing — Quasi, the Ladybug Transistor, the Clientele — sits the New Year, a mild-mannered group whose songs begin as reflective, melancholy odes and transform themselves into chiming cathedrals of sound.

Colburn School parents decry loss of Suzuki piano program
The school says the training is inadequate, but a letter campaign claims that community kids are shortchanged.

The Suzuki method of music instruction, developed in the 1940s by Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki , offers an entry point into learning an instrument for children as young as 2 and calls for parents to attend lessons and be hands-on when it comes to at-home practice.
