War produces a winner
Paul Ham’s Vietnam: The Australian War has been shortlisted for several awards, including the $100,000 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for nonfiction, but had its first win with the $15,000 Australian History Prize at the NSW Premier’s History Awards.
De Neefe is considering how much more she wants the festival to grow. As for all festivals, funding is tight and without sponsors, such as the hotels that host guests, it would be impossible. “If I was not injecting huge amounts of cash into this, it would not happen,” she says.
The Indian-born, Sydney-educated and Mumbai-resident Man Booker Prize winner Aravind Adiga has not been embraced by all his fellow Indians.
