The Death of Mortimer

The Death of Mortimer
Betty Sue’s parents bought her a new stuffed animal. Mortimer the pink bear. Betty Sue doesn’t like Mortimer. Mortimer tried to run away, but Betty Sue chased him down. Poor Mortimer. He never had a chance. MUA Goddess: Natalia Lopez De Quintana 1st Assistant: Tanner Chung

I?m Back!
I was up in the mountains of New Hampshire getting a little R&R, so there haven’t been any updates in a while. But I’m back, and Miami’s nightclubs are calling me!

Ladies Only Club April/May Meet-up Update

Hey ladies,

I had a lunch yesterday with a few of my girlfriends and I loved the idea of getting together once a month to do ladies only nights/lunches. The reason why I stuck to only once a month is? most of my friends have children, husbands, jobs, lives to tend to? so weekly becomes a bit tough.

I wanted to start this thread for two reasons:

1- to invite the ladies out there to join us

2- so everyone can post their ladies only information

My ladies only events will be dinners/lunches only. Some of the husbands are not happy with the idea of nightclubs so we will have to stick to dining locations!!! This is why I posted it under the dining section. Of course, your ladies nights stories and ideas can be WHATEVER you want them to be. I?m not a mommy so I wouldn?t mind joining in on the late night activities if anyone plans any!!!

Sorry guys, nothing against you? but sometimes it?s fun to say, ?GIRLS ONLY, BOYS? KEEP OUT!? smile

New – Kura Kura
The off-the shelf snack-bar decor here is perked up by a cozy counter bar with five seats and twelve taps dispensing some of Japan’s best microbrew beers….

Review – La Cuchara: Kagurazaka
Convivial bonhomie beams from the second-story window of this lively tapas bar in Kagurazaka. Inside, ceramic plates painted in sunny Andalucian colors hang above the brick-lined counter. Bottles of wine, conveniently marked with prices and descriptions, line the tall wooden shelves at the far end of the room. Floor-to-ceiling windows make the space seem bigger than it is -the bar seats a scant twenty four -and create an atmosphere that feels both intimate and open.

Review – Gyossantei: Shibuya
Gyossantei is a great place to sample the regional cooking of Miyazaki Prefecture, along with good sake from around the country. The dining space is comfortable and informal, and large windows on one side give it a spacious, open feel. Up front a quaint little counter displays the fresh produce of the day.

Perry’s celebrates 40 years in S.F.
Four decades ago, owner Perry Butler and then-wife Katharine had a vision – to bring the style of New York’s East Side bar and grills to San Francisco. Neither had restaurant experience. Nor did they have funds for their vision. Yet, today, Perry’s celebrates…

From vine to freezer – tomato sauce for all year
In June, just days before I started picking fresh tomatoes from my garden, I used my last bag of frozen tomato sauce from last year’s harvest. I was craving comfort food, and one of the dishes at the top of that list is a simple tomato sauce with ground beef…

Senior citizens rap: the new old school

Senior citizens rap: the new old school
A rap class at the Watts Senior Community Center run by Keith Cross enables senior citizens to relate to the young people in their lives.

No one can rock it on the mike like Patsy Cole, also known as Lady P, a 48-year-old rapper and grandmother of 28, with two more on the way. She hustles, flows, rhymes and raps, all with the intention of conveying an important message to kids and teens: If the youngsters can do it, so can she.

It’s frankly Scandinavian
In Norway, Sweden and Denmark, the embrace of classical music can tend toward the lusty, with Bergman overtones. And a younger generation is making its influence felt.

In his 1979 film, “Manhattan,” Woody Allen, ever the sarcastic pessimist, wonders why life is worth living. He comes up with Brando, Sinatra, Groucho, the second movement of Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony and Cézanne’s pears among the few things that make it worthwhile. And “Swedish movies, naturally.” Director Ingmar Bergman was the best-known Scandinavian artist, and Swedish cinema was a voyeuristic American’s most likely contact with a supposedly sexually liberated Scandinavia.
